About Photovoice

Photovoice is a community arts initiative.  It is also a participatory research method which health and community development professionals use around the world to improve community health by facilitating the empowerment of communities through a number of processes, including:

• the fostering of collective critical consciousness leading to social change
• the development of individuals’ confidence and positive sense of identity, place and influence in one’s community and
• the opportunity for groups to increase their ability to bring about policy changes to improve their communities
